Don prefers to work outside, and, by setting himself a time limit, he seeks to bring about an emotional charge and expression of being Scottish through physical gesture.
Don graduated in Drawing and Painting from Glasgow School of Art in 1965 and then taught for 30 years, 24 as a Principal Teacher of Art and Design in Gourock High. In 1982 he was sent to Japan to set-up art courses, and in 1992 was one of only three Scottish artists to be invited to take part in a week long Arts Festival in Germany.
In 2012 one of his ‘Synchronicity’ series received commendationin a worldwide art competition run by the art and Culture magazine, ‘Aesthetica’. It was his ‘Synchronicity No. 2’.
